1970 Fonseca Porto Vintage - Portugal, Douro, Porto (4/13/2012)
Similar in overall quality to previous bottles, perhaps showing a shade more tawny. Rich chocolate and maple nose, palate of cinnamon and grapey fruit that is sweet but not heavy or cloying. Alcohol in fair balance, growing a bit spirity through the finish. Just a bit lacking in stuffing, with a slight bitterness from the alcohol. Nice looking bottle, mid-neck fill, decanted 6 hours then several more hours in the glass. I've just not had great luck with this Vintage Port, still waiting to find a bottle that shows really well. (90 pts.)
