2002 Niepoort Charme Douro
From the first sip I could tell I was going to be in for a ride. Full of cherries, lots of acidity and still tannic, full of complex flavors and underlying minerality, yet it doesn’t lose that elegance Charme possesses. An amazingly long and complex finish was an extension of the palate. Dirk had us drink this side by side with the 2001 Batuta and as good as that was, this was a clear winner. A fantastic bottle that is nowhere near reaching peak yet.
