2003 Vintage Port suprise: Has a new cult port legend born?

Pintas 2003 Vintage Port

Decanted 10 hours prior to tasting. The nose is intense, full of dark, ripe fruits with a hint of spiciness. The balance seems to be evident right from the nose, even if the sweetness is notable it's also controlled by tight tannins. And the taste gives what the nose promised: Concentrated, full dark fruit body assisted with tight tannins and acidity, all in the perfect harmony. After swallow, it leaves long, sweet aftertaste with just right amount of alcohol and mouth puckering tannins. Wow! What a perfect beauty! Even if it's enjoyable as a youngster, the perfect balance gives it a significant ageing potential. This is what young port should be! And as unbelievable as it is, this is their very first Vintage Port declaration! I don't wonder at all that their red wine has already gained cult status in Portugal. If they continue like this there is no doubt that their ports will also gain the cult status. 97 points.

THank you for this review, I am glad that I bought a bottle last year in Portugal. Someone is suppose to import them in Québec, but I haven't seen the products yet. Lets hope everything turns out well and that I will be able to get more

I also agree that the wine is exceptional, I've tasted the 2003 a few months ago and I was impressed, 2001 was the first release for the wine if I'm correct.

Jorge Borges(ex-Niepoort) and Sandra Tavares( Qta Vale dona Maria) are behind this, two great young figures that will generate much talk about them in the years to come.

Fred, 2001 was the first vintage for the red wine, 2003 was the first time they produced a VP. I agree it's a very good port, and I liked the 2004 even slightly better... 8)
