Popped and poured with no decanting or air time. Deep, dense purple in color. Initially totally devoid of anything, with no nose, no flavor nuances and no alcohol heat (this surprised me). After about 30 minutes the palate opened up and started showing some good fruit. It's hard to say definitively, but I don't think this wine is going to develop much from here. I just don't think it has the components to do so. If you can get it cheap, it's a decent alternative to a standard ruby port blend. Quite a disappointment after the excellent performance by this grower's 1990 LBV, tasted at the same time. (88 pts.)

Likely corked. Try another one, I think you will find it considerably better. I had one very recently and while I certainly prefer the 1999 version which is a rock star, the 2000 is also quite good.
