Many people have been asking for a colheita from Crasto, and we knew that something was on the way. According to Manuel Lobo this was the first time it was presented outside Portugal and also outside the Crasto-people. So from that point of view it was also interesting to taste.
Compared to most 16 years old tawnies/colheita, I would say the red colour was more dominating than usual. A bit similar to a mix of Taylor’s 10 yrs and 20 yrs tawnies in colour.
Dark red colour with a touch of brown. Aroma still very fruity but behind in the taste we could feel that the colheita structure was coming out. Some wood, some smoked and actually some bacon. Full body. Taste quite demanding, a mix of tawny and vintage port. Taste including the same as the aroma: fruity/wood/smoked. Very long aftertaste. In spite of my score, if it was available I would buy a couple of cases and store it for minimum 10 years. This colheita will probably last for a long time. 88 pts.
