I thought this might be a fun thread...

You have $1500 of disposable income for madeira... From the Rare Wine Co's current inventory, build your perfect/ideal case! http://www.rarewineco.com/fine-wines/?r ... untry=2242

Shipping and/or taxes are excluded from this exercise. Inventory includes any pre-arrivals.

Ready...set...(pretend) shop! [cheers.gif]

(1) H&H Old Bual
the rest of the $$ out into '88 D'Oly Terrantez and/or Barbeito Single Casks... [dance2.gif]

Not a bad case! However, I tasted the Pacheco, A.G., Madeira [Leacock Collection] at the Leacock tasting in SF a few years back. It was the most disappointing wine of the entire tasting. I would recommend the 1912 D'Oliveira Verdelho in its place. [cheers.gif]

I was fortunate enough to grab a bottle of the 1912 last year, it definitely lives up to the expectations... I popped, poured, tasted, closed my eyes, and literally saw sparks on the backs of my eyelids, then went a little weak-kneed. It got even better over the following months... Very curious to try the 1905 now! [cheers.gif]

On the Pacheco, it would seem from the tasting notes it showed better in New York? I grabbed this from CT:

"This wine was a bit of a disappointment in San Francisco, due to a muddied and slightly sour taste, I suspected it needed further decanting back then. I’m not sure if the different decanting regimen was responsible for the difference this time around, but I absolutely fell in love with this wine in New York… I now comprehend the foundation for its lofty reputation. This had a nervous tension about it, a lovely severity. Haunting cognac, brown spice and cedar notes. A somewhat minerally, dusty, savory finish as well. Lovely length. Bravo!"

We had the 1912 D'Oly Verd. at the SF tasting in May. Most of us thought it was the best of the flight.

Drank half a bottle of the '12 d'Oliveiras Verdelho about a week ago. Better than the '05 in my opinion.

In Burgundy many cases are 6 bottles now so.

Using some of my favorites:

1-D'Oliveira Bual 1903 $495

3-D'Oliveira Bual 1968 $450

2-D'Oliveira Sercial 1937 $550

Total $1495
