Very deep in color, though looking a little brown throughout. Generous but simple and advanced nose showing vanilla, root beer, and caramel. Similar palate, with only faint signs of red fruit and a generally raisiny and slightly prunish character. Persistent heat thinned the overall impression. A pleasant enough bottle, not devoid of pedigree, but not a great showing. UK bottled by Christopher & Co., base neck, nice cork and overall condition, with an old but probably non-original generic foil capsule. This benefitted from 4 hours in the decanter to gain weight and shed some spirit, but stopped improving after that. (89 pts.)
