- 1970 Warre Porto Vintage - Portugal, Douro, Porto (7/31/2013)
Not as good as the last bottle. Double decanted 5 hours ahead of service. There was still a lot of alcohol heat present. I'm not sure if that was due to too much air or not enough, but I suspect the latter. Medium red color to go along with medium sweetness with a dry finish. The heat marred the quality of an otherwise really nice wine. (89 pts.)

John,
I typically decant Warre's VP's longer than most other VP's of the same vintage. IMO and experience older vintages of Warre's can be a little slow out of the gate and show some heat and lack of complexity if not decanted long enough. Possible that was the case...or just a off bottle.

I'm sure you're right Andy. The prior bottle that I had opened a few months ago had a longer decant time and the heat wasn't there. I have two more of these, so I'll give the next one more time.

Not one of the best of the vintage, somewhere in the middle.

Agreed, Moses. Good but never has been near the top of the vintage.
