Had a glass of the 1968 D'Oliveiras Bual at Bar Boulud in NYC.
The first sips were incredibly acidic and that acid kick faded tremendously over the 90 mins that i took to drink my glass.
It was my first Bual and I was shocked how acidic it showed.
Either way, I def enjoyed it. It was v flavorful, lots of caramel/toffee, smooth... v tasty.
Dont think I'd pay ~$150/bottle for it retail. V v good but perhaps too acidic for my taste.

Was this a newly opened bottle? As you described, Madeira really changes with air. Sounds like it would've been better even the next day.
I love this wine, IMO one of the best post WWII Madeiras out there.

I wouldnt know. They had it on their printed drinks menus so likely had been offering it for some time.
It did change tremendously in the short period of time i had it.
I wouldnt be surprised if, like you suggested, the bottle it got poured from had been opened v recently.
