1952 Leacock Madeira Verdelho Jubilee Selection (Coronation of Elizabeth) - Portugal, Madeira (4/25/2011)
Given approximately 24 hours in decanter; all that was available to me. This wine was purchased as a birthday gift for someone born in 1951 (Mom forgot when he was born.)
Certainly deserved a full tasting note but I was playing sommelier at a major wine dinner for 12 and so didn't. Other wines were a magnum of 1991 Vega Sicilia Unico, a stunning bottle of old Moscatel sweet sherry, a terribly premoxed bottle of 2001 Hermitage Guigal Ex Voto white, a great bottle of 1979 Giovannini Moresco Barbaresco Podere del Pajore, and so forth.
A little sweeter than expected for type; deep, almost profound, smoky, grapy liveliness, long; a delight to the crowd at Cousin Ron's in Evansville Feb 2011. Drinking Window 2011-2041 (94 pts.)

I rarely get to taste Verdelho or Sercial, but this experience is bending me in their favor.
