1977 Dow Vintage Port

On opening: darkish mid-red colour, pale at the rim where there is clear attenuation. Complex and persistent on the nose - dark and animaly with a pungency suggestive of menthol. Typically dry style on the palate with notable zest, a real tingle of acidity and tannin. Wall to wall flavour here with serious intensity. This is the real thing, transcendental. Following day (stoppered decanter at 16C): holding its own pretty well but has lost an edge of fineness - diminished complexity on the nose and a slight blurring of definition on the palate. Very fine wine on day 1 - 97 for that.

V nice!
Have one in the decanter right now and right after popping it already tasted really nice.
Hope it improves further through dessert time!

Very nice. When this is not corked, it's a really super bottle. Glad this one showed well! [cheers.gif]

By the time we had it post dinner I just couldnt get myself to drink it. It smelled funky and the taste was not good... felt kind of moldy.
Wonder if that is what Andy has been referring to as the issues he often finds w the 77s...
Kept it in the decanter instead of pouring it down the drain in case it was my cold and all the turkey that were throwing me off...
All the other wines tasted as expected last night though... :beat:

Wet cardboard/moldy notes is classic TCA (Corked) taint. Just robs the wine of fruit, smell, and pleasure. Sounds like your bottle was corked :(
