TN: `00 Primum JM da Fonseca, Setabul.

Color. Dull ruby-red w. some bricking starting to show on the rim. Very indistinct centre, no depth period!

Nose. Very meaty and plums, nothing stands out here.

Palate. Soft tannins, cassis and cherry, low acidity. Nothing excites and not going anywhere, especially with the touch of hardness on the finish. Does not make it in my books.

Cost was around $19.00 Cdn.

Although the name is simillar, it has no relation to Fonseca Ports.

I have not tried this wine, so can't comment on how it is.

Jose Maria de Fonseca is a solid producer that is involved in wine production, as well as joint ventures in various regions of Portugal, including the Douro. Best known for their dessert wine produced in their facilities in Setubal (a small Peninsula an hour from Lisbon) from the great Moscatel grape. I have had various bottlings of their table wines and have rarely been impressed, however some of their "partnerships" in the Douro (past tense) have made for some intriguing drinking.
