For The Love Of Port

Well, my evening plans got canceled at the last minute. So here I am stuck at home, watching the movie "Sixteen Candles" on cable while reliving my high school days in the late '80s. What better excuse to open a bottle of vino! A friend gave this 1/2 bottle to me about 1 year ago. I'm not big on California fortified wines and so I've been putting off trying this until I got the courage up...tonight.

Has a nose of plums, chocolate, and raisins. A creamy texture on the palate, with a sweet raisin and plums. A short finish with almost no tannins present. Overall, not too impressed but it still offers a VERY basic fortified wine that would please those who are not major wine drinkers. 82 points

Andy, that's interesting thanks. I don't think I would have even known about that one...although I'm not running out to buy it now or anything. :)

Of the various California port-style wines, I happen to like a few from Paso Robles...somehow, they seem refreshing, and better to drink young than try to age. Justin Obtuse and Turley somethingcleverorother come to mind. Not real ports...but something fun on a summer evening.

Yeah, this is not something you would want to cellar for 10 or 20 years.

This bottle is from Syrah grapes from Paso Robles. It does not list what vineyard the grapes are from, but the comany is the San Antonio Winery in Los Angeles!!

As a side, i've had non-wine geek friends give me table wines from this winery and I can say this is the best product I've ever had from them
