Anyone in Edmonton? Fonseca Guimaraens @ Superstore

I don't think I have seen anyone else on this board from Edmonton-area (I'm TRYING to change that so I'll have someone to have tasting with!), but on the off-chance that there are some lurkers out there, Superstore Liquor Store has Fonseca Guimaraens 2001 Vintage Port in their discontinued bin for C$50/bottle. Recently they carried it for $59 and I have seen it around Edmonton for between $65 and 73.

It is heading out the door slower than the Noval 10 yr Tawny, which rang thru on their till as Noval LBV 2000 @$18.99/bottle. I can't find Noval Tawny for less than $35 anywhere else... so ALMOST half price. (Note: the East-side Superstore Liquor store and the Sherwood park stores are OUT of the Noval 2000 LBV and 10 yr tawny. At that price, I took all I could carry! :))

That is why I stop through there occasionally. Once ins blue moon you find a great deal. (A few years ago back it was the Johnny Walker 18 yr Gold whiskey for $42/bottle - normally well in excess of $90-110. Again, attributed to lazy stock clerk/price tag error.)

Again, I doubt there is anyone from Edmonton checking out this forum, but if you are, I picked up Sandeman's Vau Vintage Port 2000 for $31+tax at the Sherwood Park Superstore Liquor Store. Decent deal considering you can't find it anywhere else around town and it WAS going for $65-70/bottle when it WAS available. :)

Todd ,
You probably won't find any edmontonians in the forum as they are without a doubt stuck in tar sands

Luc, that is our "Newfie" brothers who work up north in Fort MacMurray... but you are just as right about me not finding any Edmontonians who participate in the forum. There IS one registered... but after only 3 posts in 2 years... a PM to him is likely to remain unread for a VERY long time!

(I am working on getting a network of people in Edmonton drinking VP so that I can off-load part of my cost of drinking VP to others... if ten of us all buy a bottle of VP, we can all try 10 wines for $100Cdn, rather than $1100 for the same attempts to taste 10+ ports at once!)

My folks used to live in St. Albert when they called Alberta home .
A couple of memories : enjoyed the " badlands " in Drumheller and going to see the Edmonton Trappers .

1. I don’t live in Edmonton, but welcome your efforts all the same.

2. As a student I arranged port tastings. The deal was that I would arrange it, as I thought fit, and bill the others their share the following day. Invitations were always accepted, and the tastings were a more coherent whole than a BYOB party.

You arranged port tastings as a student? I can't even imagine having tried such an amazing beverage as Port when I was student. Cheap beer was the order of the day.

It may actually be a good thing that I did not discover port until recently... I can imagine that I would be a lot more broke than I already am...
