1991 Dow's Vintage Port

From 375ml bottle. Opened/decanted at 2:30p. The cork crumbled about 1/4 from the bottom, but I was able to wedge the remaining chunk from the neck. Minor staining of the cork. When decanted, the wine had a very light appearance, as opposed to the deep purple I have experienced with other ports. There was a good 1/4-1/2 inch or so of sediment that I poured into a small glass (as seen in the photo to the left of the bottle.) I will wait until the kids are in bed to enjoy this properly and to compose a more detailed note.
+6 hours -- A proper glass reveals a lighter, red/purple hue that is crystal clear at the edges. Nice legs, and an aroma that still has a touch too much spirit, but nice layers of fruit - dark berries, a bit of a floral touch, and that raisin/plum thing I like so much about port. The berries come through in the mouth, mostly blackberry and blueberry. As it starts to warm up and release the heat, a hint of cherry, then plums and raisins. The warm finish lingers for quite some time, as does a hint (or memory) of cherries. Very nice, and, in my limited experience, I'd guess that this port may not get much better, but is drinking well, and will likely hold up for some time more.
More to come (if it lasts.....)
Update -- ....it didn't last. :)
