1977 "Royal Jubilee"

Post by Jay P »

According to Broadbent in his book Vintage Wine, there was a special bottling in 1977 to celebrate the Queen's Silver Jubilee. "A blend of '77s contributed by the 12 (British) members of the Factory House", with corks branded 'Factory House 1977 Vintage Port'.

Has anyone had this port? Is it good (Broadbent gave it 4*)? Where might one find one of these rare gems?

A major vintage, a blend from all the top British houses.....sounds like too good to be true?

You might find one of these bottles if you are invited into the Wednesday luncheons at The Factory House. They are cellared there. I have never seen one for sale though.

The 1977 Dow also is a "special bottling" celebrating the Silver Jubilee. I also have 1935 Sandeman that was in a special bottle to commemorate the coronation of King George VI's Silver Jubilee. It has a special stenciling and a purple wax capsule which was a nice touch.
Ambition driven by passion, rather than money, is as strong an elixir as is Port. http://www.fortheloveofport.com

Darn, and I just lost my invitation to the Factory House! :(

I guess I'll just dream about one day finding a bottle, and drink the other jubilees you mentioned.

I've seen a few bottles of jubilee port come up for sale and they command a high price but none to my memory of the 35 Sandeman

Didn't Sandeman also include a special Silver Jubilee seal on their 1977 VP?
