I bought this wine on the basis that I thought it was made by Vincent Bouchard's Quinta do Tedo. My mistake his wine is called Escada d'Oro. So I did not know what to expect from this wine, though I already tasted wines made by DFJ Vinhos and I found them overdone and overoaked. This came as a complete surprise.

For 40$can, you get some serious typical Douro wines made from old vines. This wine is exclusively made from vines ranging between 80 and 100 years old. It leaves a signature of profound aromas defined with licorice, ripe rasberries and red current. Not a large bouquet put a precise and intense one. On the palate the wine has a superb balance between the ripeness of the fruit and the acidity. Again here its elegance all the way, though on opening the 14% alcohol was felt on the palate, it integrated well. Flavours of ripe field berries intermixed with licorice and old wood. Tannins have have good grain, a little bit rustic though nothing obstrusive, they give some support to the mid-palate and bring nervosity to the wine. The finale is not too long but again, this wine has delivered more than the price tag, we can't find that often, especially from a fresh and silky Douro wines that has the quality to age and gain complexity for the next 5-8 years easily. 16.5/20+
