I did not take any formal tasting notes, but I was really surprise by the quality of this wine. It was refered to me by a wine agency in Montreal and I must say that for 30$, its good deal. Even one guest at the table who normally do not put more than 15$ wanted to buy me my 2 other bottles.

The wine is saturated ruby, the nose is intense and showing flavours of licorice, red cherries, plums and smoke. On the palate, its dry, field berries fruit flavours, licorice, nice balance of acidity and tannin's grain. The finish is ok for a 30$ wine. Overall a very well made claret style douro red. 16/20 10 000 bottles produced.

Edit: as I was reading on the web, it seems that Dow's was once the owner of Quinta do Zimbro in the 19th century.

Wow, I am surprised at the SAQ getting something this esoteric. I'd love to see a list of what they stock. Fred, is there any place on line that shows their inventory?

This wine is not sold at the SAQ. It is a wine agency selling it to its client. If you want to see what the SAQ has, you can check it at this URL : http://www.SAQ.com

At the moment they have the regular bottling available though. So on their web site you want to click on "english" at the top of the page and probably make a query with Douro keyword.

We have an interesting selection but all the great bottles are in tiny quantities and either sold out the first day or sold in private importation with agencies. This happens with Niepoort and Crasto especially.
