For The Love Of Port

Looks like Schneider's of Capitol Hill is having a sale on the Reidel Sommelier Port Glass. I recently bought a pair of the official IVP Port glasses while on Roy's harvest trip which are nice, but I personally think the Riedel Sommelier is way superior. Priced at $99 for 6, which is a great deal.

The only catch is they do not ship glassware. A nice deal for those who live in the DC area.

The Riedel Sommelier port glass is my all time favourite shape. I only own one and it is used only for special occasions as it was so horribly expensive.

At $99 for 6, I would buy myself a 6 pack. That is a great price - but do be prepared to lose the odd one or two over time as they are delicate

I broke my one and only stem just before going to Portugal. While in Portugal I bought the official IVP glass... but it really is not substitue for the Riedel sommelier. Too bad I don't live near DC...

i had a couple of these and broke two. They are too delicate IMO, and I very rarely use them anymore.

huh I've had the opposite experience. These Reidel Som. are the only ones left of my port glass collection. All the cheapy Port house glass ones broke. And the slightly taller port glasses all got tipped over too easy. In fact, my Reidel glasses (one or two stems here and there) are my longest lasting glasses of all my red and white to date.

At that price, I'd by three sets. Just in case my Port loving circle gets a bit bigger up here, or you all come to Alaska for vacation and an off-line!

Save your money and buy the Riedel Vinum Port glasses at about $6 per stem. They are almost identical in shape but not as fragile. I use them 90% of the time.

Cost Plus World Market has them for about $6 per...I think the line is Connosieur (sp?).

Jebus... for $6 a stem, maybe instead of having you bring me PORT Roy, I'll have you bring me stemware!!! :? $25+tax is the minimum I have seen anywhere in Canada.

Wow... that IS a good price. The cheapest I've seen them is about $14. I need to check out Cost Plus...

I've had the same experience. I had my one and only Riedel sommelier port glass for years and it only broke because my wife accidently put it in the dish washer.

ouch that hurts... I've learned the hard way and I now just tell my friends to set them on the counter and I'll wash them later. Broken rate is almost zero now

Crate & Barrel has a great glass we use for port tastings. The shape is similar to Riedel's, but slightly larger. There hasn't been one complaint from anyone who has tasted from them. Best price is that they're about $3.00 each and can go in the dishwasher.

No, I don't, but it's part of their "Basics" and looks just like Riedel, but a little bigger. Obviously, not as fancy, but it should stand out to you when you see it.

I like their wine glasses too. There's a red and white that are both close to Riedel's Vinum collection, but are like $12.00 each and much strudier. I use to be hung up on Riedel, but just does not make sense any more.
