This tasting note is based on the average of consuming three bottles, all of them brought home from visit at the quinta during 2014 FTLOP Harvest Tour. We are so pleased with this port that we have purchased another six bottles in Denmark.
Bottled 2012. Decanted 2.5 hrs. Medium dark brown transparent colour. Lovely deep and interesting aroma of wood, some almonds, clove, cardamom and dried apricot. Full to medium body. Pleasant and elegant taste of almonds, caramel and a nice mix of spices. Long aftertaste. 94 pts.

I believe I was the first one ever to write a tasting note on this Port and have had it seven or eight times in the past few years. A friend's shop in Porto picked this up on my recommendation and has done a ton of sales on this since mid-2013. I don't know anyone who has been disappointed when tasting this particular bottling. I think it is the best of Bulas Ports (at least their tawny line up) possibly only bested by their 2011 VP. The 2009 VP is also quite good, but the 2011 is a notch better. I am pleased to see how word has spread on Bulas and am happy to have been one of their very earliest proponents.

Before 2014 I had only seen the name a couple of times on the lists of producers, but never tasted it or seen any tasting notes.
In May 2014 Emmy and I was on a private visit to Porto and Douro for some family reasons. In Porto we stayed at the tiny Linha 22-hotel recommended by Roy, which is also a wine bar.
The owner presented the 2009 Bulas LBV og NV Bulas 10 yrs tawny to us, and we liked the taste of both of them.'
When we got the program for the 2014 FTLOP Harvest Tour we could see that Bulas was on the list of visiting.
We both looked forward to that visit, and it lived up to our expectations.
Tomorrow, on New Year's Eve, we wil have som couples over to our house, and they will amongst others be served Bulas 20 yrs tawny!!

Hi Rune and Roy: For me, the 20 Year Old Bulas is the discovery of the year... When my girl-friend and I were in Porto in September we had it a few times - and it was absolutely fantastic... On the last day we managed to get two bottles from VINOLOGIA and took them home... Since weeks we looked forward to Christmas, because it was our plan to open one of the two bottles... And so we did. The wine was exactly as great as we remembered it. Now I'm counting the days (165) until I'm the next time in Portugal - and I look so forward to getting more of this great wine.

Are they importing to the States? I've only one bottle left picked up on the 2013 Harvest tour.

I believe that they are still actively looking for representation in the US. I would love to see their wines be imported!
