For The Love Of Port

Procured from The Chicago Wine Company, sporting a 2013 Zachy's auction sticker as well. No bottling date. Unbranded cork came out whole, showing some signs of seepage. Base neck fill.

Decanted and served immediately, enjoyed over 3 hours. Tremendous amount of sediment left in the bottle. Clear with roughly the color of a cool climate Pinot Noir, bricking somewhat around the edges. Definitely still appropriately colored for its age.

Nose of forest floor, pine resin and wood smoke, with hints of sweet Christmas spices and cherry. Palate shows a substantial heat, bringing the pine element to the fore, with a bit of red fruit up front and some pepper and clove towards the back. This bottle is clearly well past its prime, but it was still fun to share with friends and think about what was going on in the world 68 years ago.

A shame it didn't show better as this can be an awesome VP. But I'm sure enjoying it with others made up for it's shortcomings.

Yeah the amount of sediment was incredible, more than any other bottle I've decanted. That leads me to believe the notes I saw that talked about a still vibrant and rocking wine.
