For The Love Of Port

Found this for $10 at my local Trader Joe's and since I've never had it and it was priced right, I couldn't resist. 14% ABV listed. Doesn't say what grapes it's made out of or where the grapes come from. Just says it's vinified at the property high above the Tavora River. More of a blackcurrant nose with some light tar in the background. That palate is has enough of a mix of spices, clean blackberry and loganberries, resolved tannins, and a moderate finish. Not a bad $10 bottle at all and better than most in this price range coming out of California. This would make a well priced daily "House Wine." I will go back to get more for sure.

Vineyard: A total of 25 hectares, the property is planted with traditional Douro grape varieties: Touriga Nacional, Tinta Roriz, Tinta Barroca and Touring Franca.

Varieties: 40% Touriga Nacional, Touriga Franca 10%, 30% Tinta Roriz and Tinta Barroca 20%

Harvest: Slow Maturation during the summer. Harvest later then normal. Fresh and elegant wines

Opened another bottle of this. No change in note, so I won't rehash other than to say it's a really nice QPR for not much money.

It is a Canadian owner, Donald Ziraldo, who used to be the owner of Inniskillin famous for Icewine. He hires Jean Huges Gros as wine maker if I'm not mistaken. Wines are getting a bit finer in recent years, if you can find, the 20 yo tawny is really nice.

I've had their 20 year, but it was a rather old bottling and getting a bit tired. I think I posted a TN here on it. Would like to try a newer bottling of it.
