I received an email alerting me to this by one of the Amorim family members. We will bring a group there in 2020 when it opens to the trade and likely to the public too:

It is with great pleasure that I would like to inform you that the Amorim family has acquired TABODELLA a very old estate in the classical Dão region and I must say, we and myself, we are very happy and extremely committed with this new challenge.

Since our first acquisition in Douro Valley almost 19 years ago, we found it was the time and the right opportunity to acquire a property in which we really believe and where it will be possible to develop a project of great quality, according to the strategy outlined by the family with regard to the wine business and remarkable quintas in Portugal. Along with Quinta Nova, we want to build a reference project in Dão, distinguishing the two incredible terroirs with their own wineries.

We expect your full support for this region that deserves all the attention in Portugal, a region that has a great history and therefore, will certainly have a great future.

Located in Silvã de Cima strategically between in two valleys – Pereiro valley and Sequeiros Valley – TABODELLA (the old word has two "LL") has one of the biggest areas of vineyard in the region reaching 520 meters. With 50 hectares, 40 ha planted with vines, placed by Fontainhas Creek benefits and outstanding sun exposure from the moment it is born until the moment it sets, with soils composed mostly with white and black granite, as well as limestone, quartz and orthoclase, with unique characteristics that allow to produce wines with high freshness, elegance and longevity.

Along with other traces, Taboadella denounces a rooted agricultural and wine tradition dating back to the Roman period and medieval times. With a house surrounded by a secular garden, a wine tourism project will also be created with a visitor’s centre.

This year we are going to start with the harvest in experimental mode, testing the potential of the property grapes and next year some essays will be shared with the market, elaborated by the winemaking and viticulture duo Jorge Alves and Ana Mota. The launch of the project with a new winery is only planned for 2020.

Dão is for us one of the most emblematic and promising regions of the country, home to great wines with a classic profile and enormous longevity, a historical and unique terroir that not only demonstrates the full potential of Touriga Nacional and Encruzado, but also of traditional varieties.
