TN: 2016 Quinta de Saes Dão Tinto

The first red dry wine that I havve tasted from 2016. Surprisingly dark color. Smokey, earthy black fruit nose. The palate follows nose with the addition of subtle dark chocolate. Medium tannins and medium+ length finish. The palate is quite dense for a Quinta de Saes. Comes across as a cool climate wine. I believe that this bottling is the entry level wine for Quinta da Pellada. I’m used to this bottling being more red fruited and not as bold and more of a generic Dão. This is an excellent entry level wine and a super value! If this is an example of the quality of the 2016 table wines in Northern Portugal, then we have much to look forward to! 91+ points
