This Douro red is now 8.5 years old (since harvesting), and it was time to test it out. Based on previous experience, we increased the decanting time from 3 hr to 4 hrs, and that appeared to be a good decision.

Decanted 4 hrs. Dark purple colour. Fruity aroma of dark red berries and with oak/minerals in the background. Medium to full body. In the taste the minerals are becoming more evident and together with the fruit this wine is giving a well-structured impression. Powerful and elegant in a very nice harmony. With well-integrated acidity/sweetness, this wine has gone up a few steps. Considered one more point, but ended at 94 pts.

I have this in my cellar and I recently saw a poor score for this wine, so your note makes me happy. :D

I think decanting, as Rune mentioned, is the key on many Douro wines. Pop and pour just doesn't do the upper end ones justice. Even an hour or two can make a big difference.

Agreed... especially for Roriz!
