2004 Dao Sul "Quinta das Tecedeiras" Reserva - was the winner of all red wines that I tasted at the IVDP tasting yesterday. The gal pouring, Lucia, mentioned that the 2003 was supposedly even better as it had won a GOLD medal at the Brussel's event. The 2004 only had won the Silver medal, but I can say it was a real winner. TN to follow.

This was also hands-down my favorite dry wine of the event. Just a stunning wine IMO. IIRC, its not available in the states yet :( But hopefully some will make it over hear soon..I know I'll buy some when it does.

Both Kris Henderson and also Stewart Todd really enjoyed this wine.

I am hoping to help them get into this country because the quality overall is impressive! And then there is the pricing. Quite reasonable and the type of Douro wines that I would cellar by the case. Let's hope they don't have a hard time getting into the USA market which could use exactly this combined maketability dynamic for a fine Portuguese producer.

The bottle in the initial post would probably retail in the $30-35 range and that is their TOP priced DOC. I tasted wines that could possibly be sold for as little as $10 that were excellent "Monday through Thursday with dinner" wines from the Douro and there were a few in this price range and also above by $5-10 or so.

I was given a bottle of this wine to taste and will bring it to share with my brother and our families at Thanksgiving with the proper decant, so that I can provide a more accurate assessment over a few hours rather than a snapshot view in five minutes.
