Nick,
In either March or April, the bulletin board members here (similar to the group you met earlier this month at Covent Garden) will again be meeting for our very own vertical tasting of the Quinta do Vesuvio wines. I can promise that ours should be even better!

Roy, I'd be very interested in participating in that Vesuvio tasting, one of my favorite wine. I have an idea, why don't we make it in Montreal during the Montreal Wine fair, late March. There will also be the Douro boys that will organise a dining, it would be a great timing to do this tasting during the same long week-end and to participate in both event. What do you think?

You can never get too much of a good thing - which is why I thought it of interest! Indeed, I can't envisage anyone thinking this could be either or, rather, a nice chance to have two sets of the same wines under differing circumstances - giving a different and equally valid impression...
While I would have loved to attend the Vesuvio tasting (or even Linden's Taylor's tasting tonight), I am in the same position as Stuart in that I have used up all my festive passes already.
Mind you, I'm stunned at the price that the Michael Schuster tasting has been arranged for. The wines seem to range from GBP 25-75 per bottle but he has been able to put this on for GBP 49 per head. I wonder how many tickets he's selling.
However, I will start to arrange something for March / April as soon as Roy has confirmed his dates in the UK next spring.
Fred - do you ever come over to the UK? If you do, maybe you could coincide with Roy's visit. You would be most welcome to take part in the Vesuvio tasting that we organise.

Alex, depending on the date it could be a possibility. I don't have any vacation left for 2005-2006 at my job but I could probably take a friday off, tasting on saturday and coming back on sunday.
Once a date is fixed, I'll check the possibilities. I have never been to UK, it could be very interesting.

Vesuvio vertical tasting
I have all vintages of Vesuvio 1989 - 1995 I bought wholesale from the local importer. It would be easy to get the rest for doing a tasting in Napa, San Francisco, or LA. I have no idea how many members are in California to do a tasting. I can supply them at low wholesale pricing.
Any interest for a tasting in California ? 8)

Re: Vesuvio vertical tasting
I am always interested in tasting in Cali...However, I am down in the L.A. area...a LONG drive from the Napa area. If anyone in southern Cali area is intersted in a tasting sometime early next year let me know.portmaker wrote:

Vesuvio vertical tasting in LA
Hi Andy
I have business and friends in LA, so am often down there and the tasting could be done there if we have a quorum. Some of my LA friends could attend as well to increase the number there.
I have done a number of high end tastings in top restaurants like Sona in LA over the years - port, old bordeaux, and calif cab. The last port tasting I did was 1963s at Sona two years ago. Of course doing it at Sona increases the cost greatly, but I do not have a home down there to hold a tasting. But some restaurants will provide a place reasonably.
But we would need quite a few more people yet.
