I guess 77's are in as we end 20007.
This Ferreira was my first VP about 20+ years ago when I first discovered VP.
I am down to one bottle after owning a couple of cases.
I have always thought this to be an underrated port by the wine critics.
This bottle had full fruit on the nose , spicey bouquet. When I say fruit,I mean the best charactieristics of the port grape. We seem to use every discriptor than grape. Grape or grapey seems to imply a negative.
This had the best characteristics of ripe, flavorful grapes or grape jam.

This was really nice ruby in color. Good smooth mouth entry, hitting all the good places on the tongue and palate. Lingering finish.
Certainly not a heavy weight but a pleasant 91 points.

Thanks for the review. I have been itching to try the 77 Ferreira (and Ramos Pinto). I recently picked up a bottle of 79 Ferreira I am anxious to open.

We are planning on a Ferreira vertical in Boston at some point, maybe in the spring or summer?

AMEN! Shoot, we could have made 1977 VP's the virtual tasting for December, we've had so many this month. Its great to read all the current TN's on these 77's. Keep up the great work everyone

That would be a good time... I would even explore the possibilities of making it out for that, although you would likely have to pick me up a bottle in proxy ahead of my arrival as Ferreira is a rarity around my parts... I'd love to do a vertical of it though, that would be awesome!

I've had the Ferreira 77 twice and on both times I enjoyed it very much. We had it over Thanksgiving. Here are my notes:

Very light pink color, (color of Japanese maple leaves in the fall - we compared it!) nose very clean, light and fragrant with notes of cherry, vanilla, jasmine tea and a hint of musk. Light mouthfeel, sweet with a touch of cinnamon on the finish. I think it's at it's peak right now. 94 pts.

Great review..I happen to agree that Ferreira is under rated! The few vintages that I've had were very good. I've never had the '77 but I'm sure it is a real winner.. please count me in on any Ferreira tastings in the future!
