A very dark ruby color. The nose is a typical young LBV showing plums and blackberries. The nose isn't very powerful and shows a bit on the soft side. The palate is a bit thinner than it's 1995 counterpart with soft tannins, good balance, some smoke, mahogany, a touch of liquorice, and mocha. The finish is medium in length and shows a very small amount of unintegrated alcohol, which should integrate in the next couple of years. Overall, this is a little weaker than the 1995 but still a good LBV. I think a few more years in the cellar will do it good, but I don't think this one will hold up as long, or be as good as the '95. 87-88 points

Andy, I had this one some days ago. My impreesion was much more positive than yours. On day 1 the LBV did not show much. On day 2 there was much more on the palate but still very primary. I found it, to indicate a very good concentration and complexity, but to be so young. So much purple at the edge! I would not be surprised if this one would reach easily the rating of an outstanding LBV in 5 years or so.

Glad you enjoyed it, as did I. However, IMO it doesn't have the structure and grip that the 1995 vintage does. I agree that this is still a young LBV, but I'd be willing to bet the 1995 holds up better in the long run. The main reason for trying this was to see how it compared with the 1995 version, which I've had many bottles of. The '99 vintage just doesn't show as much promise as its older brother...but they are both still very good LBV's and I own a number of both vintages. Just my

thanks for your reply. I will look for the 1995. Allways very interesting to compare several vintages in its evolution. I hope to read a lot about Warre's LBV 1995 and 1999 from you in the future.

Do try and get a bottle of the 1995 to try and you will notice the difference.

Gonna drag up this older thread to see if you have tried the '99 again recently Andy? (Or Micheal, have you tried the '95?)

After retrying both these side by side, I would be willing to say that the 99 is in perfect drinking form for an LBV while the 95 is starting to slip a wee bit. I know only a few months have gone by, and there could be a lot of bottle variation between what you are drinking and what I am drinking, but the 99 is really picking up steam...

Todd, not so far. But 1995 is on my list. And I consider to stock up 1999.

No I have not had a chance yet. Work has been real busy lately and last night was the first time in a week that I've had any alcohol...a 1/2 bottle of Crasto Old Vine Reserva and the remains of an old bottle of Madeira that was corked, but more on that in the Madeira section.
