- 1953 Royal Oporto (Real Companhia Velha) Porto Colheita - Portugal, Douro, Porto (10/28/2005)
Tasted at the"Round House" in the Douro with Jerry Luper - Then the mystery wine at the end. What a wine! It turned out to be the 1953 Royal Oporto Colheita. Beautiful almost orange color. Floral nose. Still fruity. Very much alive. Balanced a long long finish. There is still good acid in this. Wow! One the best wines of the trip. (95 pts.)

I bought 2 of these and I ended up trading them to friends born in 1953 .
I am sending them this note. They are holding them for their 60th I think . Hope I get to try it.

David,
Agreed that this is a very solid Colheita. I gave it 92-93 points and though it had great complexity, a big palate, and a long finish.
Richard,
I do hope you get to try this, its really good.

The two friends are very speical wine friends and I believe I will get to taste it. The fact that I have shared many wines with these generous folks
is the reason I traded it so easily. And the wines I got in the trade were very special including a 1982 Pinchon Longueville and a 1986 Ducru Beaucaillou and a Turley Zen .
