Day two of the Boston trip started with this old VP. We started drinking right after decanting and it had a bit of an oxidative nose and maderizated palate. However, have no fear Vintage Ports are quite the amazing wines as the oxidative note blew off and the maderization subsided a lot as we consumed it. The palate was still amazingly heavy for this 81 year old bottle. Full of floral dried rose pedals, cinnamon spice, and a touch of heat. This opened up further to reveal a good complexity of carmel, toffee, and butterscotch. A long finish rounded out a very good VP. 93 points
