My graduation year from high school, and this particular split was relatively cheap so I picked it up at QFC of all places. Bottled in 2006.

Pretty normal reddish-brown color in the glass, with a slight greenish-yellow tint around the rim.

Alcohol prevalent on the nose, much more than I'm used to from Colheitas and 20-yr old Tawnies. Almost to the cleaning of test tubes in science class level. It's almost overpowering... but not quite. Raisin and possibly oak are also present.

The oak is also present in the taste with only a minor amount of swishing and searching. More raisin here, as well as some notes of apple. There's a bit of an edge to the flavor as well, which is normal to me (this is that "twist" that I refer to often because it's almost always present for me). There's quite a bit of heat from the alcohol, but while it's present on the nose I don't really taste it going down. I just feel it, which is pleasant.

The finish is short, but then returns a few seconds later with a very soft apple/pear note. But you'd probably miss it if you weren't looking for it.

All-in-all a decent Colheita. Not up to the standard set (for me) by the Rocha 1977, but nicer than the Rocha and Kopke 1991s that I have tried. I'd certainly buy it if I could find it for $30 again!
