I bought this bottle as part of the 2 1976 Fonseca's. The guy offered it to me for only € 20 so i took it.
I wanted to open this as my tribute to the virtual offline tasting for april, but that has to be a VP and not a LBV.

So here we go, cork removed with ease. Looked pristine, not saturated. The color is pale pink, like a local drink called "roosvicee" here, its thick, turbid.

The smell is awesome, lots of red fruit like strawberries and raspberries. But also marzipan, its sweet and heavy.

According to Roy i have to decant it between 4-6 hours. But i wanted to taste the first glass without decanting at all so i poured myself 1 glass to taste the difference later.
Not much tannines left in this bottle. It tickles the palate and stings a little, does not look very promising at this point. Not a long aftertaste aswell. At this point i cant taste anything specific like my other TN's.

Second glass after 5 hours of decanting.
Wow, this has definately improved alot ! Its very sweet and soft, silky and velvet. I can very much taste the sugar almost like its liquid caramel. You have to love this or hate this. I love it. But....i cant be any more specific though. In my other tastings i always could taste something specific like fruit, oak or chocolate but now its the caramellish taste that does it.
All with all i rate this 89 points. Good but not excellent.

Erik,

i love to read about these old and odd bottles that one rarely hears about, much less sees these days. Sounds like it was past its prime, but even in its old age provided a good drink. Thanks
