Martignetti's has Altano Douro 2004 for $5.99 in the Bin Ends. Most of the bottles have a damaged labels, but no big deal for me. Haven't tried one yet, but it looks to be a good value. Picked up six bottles.

This is one of the few Douro wines I have tried. Without an official TN, this is all off the top of my Port-soaked head, but I remember it being both powerful and fruity at the same time. It leaned a bit toward the fruitier side with some vanilla (which I like in my dry reds) and less pronounced Oak.

I was under the impression that it might be a bit young, due to the immense tannins in it. This was confirmed by the rep who told me he had a case and a half in the cellar at home... half for near- to mid-term drinking, one case for cellaring for a few years. He said he would probably tear into that case starting in 2 years, but suspected 3-4 would be optimal.

Having little dry red experience myself, I wouldn't know, but passing on the info is easy enough! :)

And that is a GREAT price for it! You don't even want to know what I paid... :?
