Alex brought some cigars (which shall remain nameless  ) so I opened this 1/2 bottle to enjoy with them. Keep in mind the TN here may be a bit off as we were smoking at the same time as taking this note. But here is our combined TN on this very good Tawny.

The nose has iodine, brown sugar, walnuts, mixed nuts, cake batter, and orange peel. The palate has very lively acidity, carmel, toffee, and some iodine on the back palate and finish. The finish quite long with very good structure. Although a bit handicap due to the cigar, which was light bodied but paired quite well with this bottle of Port. A very good combo and the perfect night cap.

I may need to take up smoking, because split that I opened a long time ago didn't impress me. I don't recall it having anything close to the complexity you describe, so I wonder if I just had an off bottle?

I have another split in my wine fridge, so maybe I'll go ahead and open that some time this summer.

I've had this paricular Rocha several times and each bottle has always been consistant with the previous. Maybe an off bottle, bad palate day, who knows. But give it a go again and see if your first TN is similar to the second TN.

My first impression was: what a huge port glass !, no wonder these guys drink 1 bottle per person. Then i read it was a 1/2 bottle

Thanks for the TN
