When an Ugly Duck wine turn to a Swan

This can be a little off topic but i just would like to write an experience, a little bit like the one Guilherme wrote, in these 3 last days, with a Moscatel de Setubal.

Okay, this was a Moscatel that was being exported to Brasil and Venezuela, that was found in a house of an old lady. No special care with the wines as they were kept in mediocre conditions.

First Day - Opened the bottle, decanted and put the wine again in the bottle. Tasted. NO wine there. No aromas, just nothing. In the mouth, an incredible density but the no flavour, just the aguardente. By this time i told to myself that this was not a good wine.

Second Day - I felt so bad that i trusted that this could be what we call as a "bottle decease". Tasted again and i notest some aromas in the wine. Coffee scents, caramel, some flower. In the mouth still huge density. I was so happy, as i told to myself this is coming to itsefl.

Third Day - This wine became a Swan, so beautiful, really complex with Dried Fruits, Caramel, Tofee, Orange flower, some Vinagrinho. OMG huge in the mouth. A great, great Moscatel.

This is why wine is really something to fight for, something to be passioned and most of all something alive like us.

Well, here's the Photo for Guilherme to see, as it was a wine meant to be exported to his country.

I dig for some information and talked to people that produce Moscatel and people that work in the Portuguese Comission that Certifies Moscatel de Setubal (CVR of Palmela). It was told me that this moscatel has probably more than 70 Years and it's kind of a rare wine.

Joao,
Great story thanks for sharing it and glad the bottle turned out to be so good. What is the name of it?

This is a Moscatel de Setúbal.
The producer is J.A. Fernandes

It says in the label that this wine was analyzed by the Institute of Bromatology in Rio de Janeiro
