1960 Burmester Vintage Port

91 points - this wine had a label so old or cellar damaged we had no idea on the vintage although we could identify the maker. Luckily the cork, although fully saturated to the end, came out in one piece, clearly revealing the vintage. Although 48 years old this was in great shape revealing good colour, excellent to outstanding aromatics featuring cherry and almond liquer notes, a spicy, alcoholic lift and some volatile esters that added considerably to the mix. The palate was very impressive with similar flavours, plenty of substance and structure and, seemingly, plenty of time to go. I’m unsure of this house’s style/performances over the years but this bottle seems to suggest that 1960 was a success here. (10 August 2008)

This is my first TN on this very impressive and distinguished "port" site. Due to the damaged label, perhaps the more edified here could assist/educate me on what I "might' have drunk. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

David,

Thank you for the kind words and your TN placed here on :ftlop:

Although we have been in touch in the past, I had no idea that you had never posted here before. Extraordinary. :winepour:

I enjoyed your note and if you still have the bottle, we'd welcome a photograph of it or a couple showing it up close and also a full bottle shot.

Thanks for posting and I hope you will share your Port knowledge with the folks here!

Best regards,

Roy
