What is your opinion of the quality of the 2005 vs. 2006 basic Douro red wine? Do you have a preference? Rating?
As the 2006 Vinha Velha Douro is not yet available for sale, what is your opinion about the 2005?

I don't know if it was bottle variation or just wine changing with time but I had the best and the average with the Vinha Velha 2005. I did have the opportunity to drink their 2006s yet. From 2005 my most memorable souvenir was the Touriga Nacional, they really make it spot on!

Don't forget the very special 2005 Maria Teresa either. Others have opinions on these wines?

I did taste it, but wasn't blasted. I really liked the elegance of the TN. For me the Teresa is a bit too much of everything without the right balance. We'll see how it will age, hopefully it will turn great.

I had this a year and a half ago the first time and as a cask sample on 3 different occasions. Additionally, as I have now had this a half dozen times since this April in Vancouver (from finished bottles) I think the MT'05 epitomizes balance. Please do try it again when you have a chance and I'd love to read your updated opinion.
