Still fairly deep in colour. High-toned with brandy showing at first but mellowed in glass.
Medium-sweet, elegant, spicy.
8 btls Taylor 1927 £495.00 btl ***** MB
Fairly deep, lively ruby, lovely graduation of colour. Very attractive classic 'British Liquorice'
bouquet. Full-bodied, hot, high alcohol, fig-like fruit, good length, dry finish. A couple of
years later rich, incredible depth and power. Very sweet, mouthfilling, rounded, still tannic.
5 btls Sandeman 1934 £275.00 btl 94/100

ripe cherry and toffee nose with lots of spicy berry flavours and velvety mouth feel.

A lovely palish rosehip colour. Low-keyed at first but a beautiful sweet fragrance emerged.
Still very sweet and powerful, combining softness and grip. Glorious.
4 btls Croft 1945 £485.00 btl 99/100
A truly hedonistic glass of Port, incredibly rich and delicious. Deep ruby with a garnet rim,
rich coffee and chocolate aromas, full-bodied, with a rich, round texture, tons of chocolate
and ripe fruit flavors and a long, long finish.
4 btls Sandeman 1945 £395.00 btl *****MB
Rosehip-hued, nice graduation of colour. Suave, silky, harmonious bouquet.
Drying out on palate, now on the light side, gentle, touch of vanilla, crisp,
lacking length.
3 btls Graham 1945 £750.00 btl 95/100
What the '48 has in power the '45 has in finesse. It is still very concentrated but extremely
well balanced and mellow. Medium ruby with a garnet edge, ripe plum aromas, medium-bodied,
with plenty of elegant, delicate plum flavors and a balance of rounded tannins on the finish.
Will improve with age.
2 cases Taylor 1948 £7995.00 case 99/100
I have had this numerous times and I have always been bowled over by its great quality.
It is teeming with plum aromas and flavors. Deep ruby-red, with coffee, cocoa,
violet and plum aromas, full-bodied, with ripe fruit flavors, medium tannins and a balanced finish.
Very firm and refined, it will age on and on.
1 case Dow 1955 £2250.00 case ***** MB
Never very deep in colour though firm and flavoury. Very fragrant. Silkily tannic texture,
Vanilla and liquorice, peppery finish. I could not fault it - worth seeking!
1 btl Fonseca 1955 £295.00 btl 96/100
A big wine with tons of rich, luscious fruit. Deep ruby color, with a very ripe, perfumed nose,
full-bodied, with great depth of silky berry flavors and a very long finish.
1 case Taylor 1955 £2650.00 btl ***** MB
This is still very good indeed. It is a racy wine with a fruit bowl of flavours. Medium red
with a garnet edge, chocolate and vanilla aromas, medium-bodied, with sweet berry
flavours and a lovely finish. JS
2 btls Sandeman 1958 £195.00 btl *** MB
Sweet, rich and fruity, drinking well.
4 btls Cockburn 1963 £65.00 btl **** MB
Quite a good colour. Its nose reminded me of burnt-out candle wax. Low-keyed at first
but opened up fragrantly. Lean dry finish but overall very appealing. Good length.
8 btls Croft 1963 £65.00 btl 90/100
Has great elegance and harmony, and should continue to improve for many years.
Medium ruby-red, with very fresh plum aromas, medium-bodied, with very delicate
fresh fruit flavors, lively acidity and a delicate finish.
1 case Fonseca 1963 £1995.00 case 98/100
A grand slam. Deep ruby with a slightly red edge, intense black cherry and raspberry nose,
full-bodied, with masses of fruit, full tannins and an extremely long finish. This can age indefinitely.
5 cases Graham 1963 £1395.00 case 97/100
This is a monumental wine with a great balance of fruit and tannin. Medium ruby with a garnet edge,
enticing nose of bitter chocolate and plums, full-bodied, with chocolate and raspberry flavours,
medium tannins and a very long finish.
6 btls Offley Boa Vista 1963 £59.00 btl **** MB
Colour medium-deep. Very good bouquet, touch of liquorice. Sweet, nice weight, spicy.
Very enjoyable.
2 btls Sandeman 1963 £99.00 btl 96/100
This may be one of the most underrated '63s made. Its deep red colour gives little indication
of the wine's age, and there is an abundance of youthful, rich fruit on the nose and palate.
Full tannins and an assertive finish back up everything. Will still improve with age.
2 btls Taylor 1963 £140.00 btl 97/100
A big wine with superb balance, a shinning example of this exuberantly fruity vintage.
Deep ruby, with violets and coffee on the nose, full-bodied, with dried cherry flavours
and plenty of tannin, balanced and long on the finish.
6 cases Dow 1966 £1095.00 case 94/100
This is an extremely racy and totally harmonious vintage port, with wonderfully fresh
aromas of flowers, fruit and berries. Full-bodied, with a sweet yet firm palate.
Long, long finish. Super.
2 btls Fonseca 1966 £125.00 btl 97/100
This is still a monster that needs time. Deep ruby, with a ripe, meaty cassis and berry nose,
full-bodied with tons of velvety fruit flavours, full tannins and a very long finish.
1 case Graham 1966 £1195.00 case 93/100
Elegant, silky and youthful, this is a sexy wine. Medium ruby-red, showing aromas of plums, chocolate
and ripe fruit. The Palate follows through with a bounty of sweet plum flavours and a fresh mouth-feel.
It should continue to improve with age .
1 case Taylor 1966 £1150.00 case ***** MB
Lovely flavour rich, fully evolved, good flesh and flavour
2 cases Cockburn 1970 £445.00 case 86/100
This is ripe and ready to drink. It is slightly more forward than many of the '70s from the other top houses.
Medium ruby-red, with rich aromas of cherry and marzipan, medium-bodied, with ripe cherry flavors,
balanced tannins and a solid finish.
3 cases Dow 1970 £790.00 case 94/100
6 btls Dow 1970 £65.00 btl 94/100
A classic vintage port, both fleshy and firm on the palate. Medium Deep ruby, with a fresh strawberry
nose, full-bodied, with focused fruit flavours, medium tannins and a long finish. Still needs time.
7 btls Graham 1970 £85.00 btl 94/100
This is an extremely full-bodied, powerful wine, but it still retains a classy balance. Deep ruby,
with chocolate and berry aromas, full-bodied, with anise and dried cherry flavors, full, hard tannins
and a long finish. Good now but a few more yearsof bottle age would improve it.
Best from 1990 through 1993.
1 case Taylor 1970 £990.00 case 98/100
6 btls Taylor 1970 £80.00 btl 98/100
Clearly lives up to Taylor's superb reputation. Deep ruby, with intense violet and chocolate aromas,
full-bodied, with gorgeous fruit flavours, full but well integrated tannins and an exstremely long finish.
Amazing balance and finish. Still needs time.
1 case Warre 1970 £690.00 case 88/100
Wonderful fruit on the palate, but slightly one-dimensional. Medium to deep red,
with earthy cassis and tomato aromas, full-bodied, with concentrated black cherry
flavors, medium tannins and a long, sweet finish. Quite delicate.
2 cases Croft 1977 £395.00 case 88/100
Light garnet color, with aromas of dried berries, nuts and flowers. Tea too. Full and soft palate,
with attractive smooth texture and sweet fruit. Very sweet. Very ready. Drink now.
4 cases Dow 1977 MAGNUMS £595.00 case 94/100
1 case Dow 1977 £575.00 case 94/100
Impressively hard and powerful, but very closed for the moment. It should age for many decades.
Dark ruby with rich raspberry and earth aromas, full bodied, with an excellent balance of full tannins
and generous berry flavours.
5 btls Fonseca 1977 £90.00 btl 100/100
Until recently this wine was understated and closed. Now it has opened up into a mammoth wine
with so much fruit that it crushes your palate. Deep ruby, with ripe raspberry and cherry aromas,
full-bodied, with layers of concentrated, sweet raspberry flavours, tons of tannin and an incredibly
long finish. Perhaps as great as the '48.
11 cases Graham 1977 £760.00 case 93/100
5 btls Graham 1977 £70.00 btl 93/100
Graham is another great port house, producing one of the deepest-colored and sweetest styles of vintage
port. Along with Taylor and Fonseca, Graham has probably been the most consistent producer of great
port in the post World War II era. Their tawny's are quite good rather than exceptional, but their vintage
ports are truly sublime and sumptuous.
1 case Sandeman 1977 £440.00 case 91/100
Dark ruby-garnet. Very floral on the nose, with loads of berry character and hints of custard pie.
Full-bodied and medium-sweet, with a wonderful mouthfeel. Smooth and caressing, with lots of fruit.
Complex finish of strawberry, coffee and custard. A real beauty.
This turned out much better than I would have ever imagined.
4 cases Taylor 1977 £895.00 case 98/100
8 btls Taylor 1977 £75.00 btl 98/100
There is an explosion of fruit and tannins in the mouth but at the same time this wine is in total harmony.
Deep dark ruby, with blackberries and violets on the nose, full-bodied, with masses of blackberry flavours,
full, hard tannins and a very long finish. Will age for decades.
9 btls Warre 1977 £55.00 btl 92/100
This house makes rather restrained yet rich, flavorful vintage port and a very good tawny called Nimrod.
Their vintage port seem slow to develop and while they never quite have the voluptuous richness of a Dow,
Graham or Fonseca, they have a unique mineral-scented character that gives them their own complexity
and style. The 1977 is quite powerful, very deep and intense, particularly for Warre.
4 cases Cockburn 1983 £595.00 case 97/100
A big tough Port for long-term aging. It underlines what people mean when they say a great young vintage Port should overpower one's palate with fruit and tannin. Inky colour, with perfumed cherry and berry aromas,full-bodied, with tons of tannins, intense cherry and berry flavors and a lingering finish.
1 case Gould Campbell 1983 £395.00 case **** MB
6 btls Gould Campbell 1983 £33.00 btl **** MB
Impressively deep, immature. Considerable depth of fruit, fairly sweet, flavoury,
like a pretty child with an upturned nose.
1 case Taylor 1983 £550.00 case 89/100
Taylor is always closed and tight when young and this is no exception. Deep ruby-purple,
ripe raisin and violet aromas, full-bodied, with sweet raisin and grape flavors, a lovely balance of full tannins and an explosion of fruit on the finish.
2 cases Dow 1985 £490.00 case **** MB
4 btls Dow 1985 £41.00 btl **** MB
Surprising sweetness, attractive fruit, elegance, soft, figgy nose, good texture. Dry finish but perfect ripeness.
1 case Quinta do Noval 1985 £400.00 case 87/100
The beautiful Quinta do Noval is undoubtedly the most famous port producer, largely because
their 1931 and 1927 were to vintage port what the 1947 Cheval Blanc and 1945 Mouton-Rothschild were to the Bordeaux trade - divine, monumental wines of extraordinary depth of flavor.
Also, the Quinta do Noval produces a rare vintage port from a small vineyard of ungrafted, pre-phylloxera vines called Nacional. It is so rare that I have never seen, much less tasted, a bottle of what
is supposedly a great port. However, the truth of the matter is that recent vintages of Quinta do Noval have not been nearly as impressive as they should be. The 1985 however, is quite concentrated, seductive, and amazingly delicious now, and it should mature quite quickly. The finish is long and flavorful.
We can arrange worldwide delivery on request by Sea or Air.
All ports are offered subject to remaining unsold and to final confirmation. E&OE
