For The Love Of Port

Drunk on 08 October 2008 in a Cockburns vertical in London.

1912 Cockburn
The famous ‘Titanic’ vintage (the year the passenger liner Titanic sunk). What struck me first about this Port was its red colour, which was darker than the earlier Ports and both the 1924 and 1927. The nose gave me mostly aniseed and dry herbs. I could not believe how good it tasted. Sip after sip revealed a slick dry date and dry fig, a hint of alcohol and a most impressive length. Amazingly, this is on its current drinking plateau, and it was my favourite Port of the night. 96 years old and still going strong!

I enjoyed that same bottling with Nicos, Andy, Alex, Julian, Derek and a bunch of others and it really was one of the top 2 VPs of all Cockburn's from the 20th century.

Yes a wonderful bottle indeed. I guess I should hold on to my remaining 2 cases
