2000 Quinta do Noval LBV (Unfiltered):
Wow, the color on this was almost squid ink it was so dark. I don’t recall seeing a LBV that was this dark before. Noval Ports tend to have a characteristic perfume nose and this was no different. Very appealing and I think I smelled this for about 5 minutes before I even took a sip. I first noticed how soft and elegant the palate was. That lasted all of about 2 seconds before I was attacked with tons of tannins and searing acidity. Tons of black fruit filled the mouth and was the lead into a long finish. This is still a baby and, in the words of Caleb, “Will last forever.” That’s a bit of an exaggeration but it will easily last 20+ years and is easily one of the best LBV’s I’ve had. For $20 retail, this is a must buy for anyone looking for a killer QPR Port. 92-93+ points 12/27/08
