So, is it going to be bubbly or Port on New Year's Eve this year ... or both?

What is in your lineup?

Both of course.

Not really now yet what will be opened since i will be in a friends house. But since he is a port producer, i think i will have ports, good ones.

But i know what i will bring to New year's eve.

José Maria da Fonseca Old Moscatel (1920/30)
Quinta do Barão Carcavelos (1940's)
1963 Cockburn's Vintage
And a bunch of still wines like Cos 1976, Chapoutier Vin de Paille 1995, Ferreirinha Reserva Especial 1962, etc

I will have an bottle pre 1900 of Niepoort, called Imperador (Amazing Label) to present to the host in that night.

I am going to sound like a terrible killjoy, but I have never much enjoyed New Year's Eve and have no plans at all to do anything out of the ordinary. Unless we wind up visiting relatives, I plan to work until almost 12mn. Big celebrations are not my strong suit, I prefer quiet moments of celebration every day.

I'm working so nothing for me.
I'll probably open something nice when I get back home.

Both for me. I have a ton of various tawnies left over from a tasting I hosted for a couple of family members over Christmas (anecdote coming... no TNs were taken this night.)
I will likely start with a newly-acquired 1998 Ventozelo LBV (unfiltered) before moving on to the bubbly at midnite. Followed by more Port, most likely tawny so I can evaluate the LBV over a couple of days (or at least pretend like I have that kind of restraint.)

Happy New Years to all if I don;t get back here before then! :winepour: :winebath:

I have a special sparkling wine I brought back from Canada - 2001 Sumac Ridge "Pinnacle" - a limited edition release (500 cases). We've always liked their "Stellar's Jay" release and this should be a bit better.

For Port, I have two bottles that have been already opened - 1994 Vesuvio and 1994 Martinez.

That's an excellent choice in sparklers! :)

Looks like i will be spending tomorrow night at my cousin's place - and apart from Giacondi vino rosso I have no idea what will be served there.

We decided only to have sparkling wine, namely 2004 Rheingau Riesling Sekt brut Réserve from Sekthaus Solter in Rüdesheim am Rhein. I do like this better than many Champagnes.

Our current line-up looks like this:

- Kopke VP, 1970
- Ramos Pinto VP, 1982
- Martinez VP, 1985
- Fonseca-Guimaraens VP, 1995

- Sao Pedro, 40+ Tawny

And we are still missing one guys ports, but I think it will be a Nieeport 1987 VP and a Delaforce Curious and Ancient*, 20yr Tawny.

And for the bubblies:
- Moet & Chandon, Brut Imperial (sparkly-stone version to look pretty)

We are not at all into Champagne, so with a heavy Portwine list, we did not ant to delve that much into the bubbles on this evening as well :)

PS: Curious and Ancient is the best name ever for a port, and one we have very much adopted here :P

Micky,
Some interesting Ports and a few are not seen very often (such as the Kopke, an '82 Ramos Pinto, and an '87 Niepoort), the later of which is a stellar VP.

I hope everyone has a safe and fun New Years and may all your bottles show perfectly!

That is a great line-up and sounds like a fun night in store for Micky and friends.

I bought the bubbly yesterday - Veuve Clicquot (Demi Sec as my wife prefers the sweet stuff to the brut sparklers.)
And as far as this quote:
Todd Pettinger wrote:I will likely start with a newly-acquired 1998 Ventozelo LBV (unfiltered) before moving on to the bubbly at midnite. Followed by more Port, most likely tawny so I can evaluate the LBV over a couple of days (or at least pretend like I have that kind of restraint.)
  I kinda opened and finished that bottle last night... no restraint whatsoever... I couldn't even wait for New Year's Eve!!! :Naughty:

Needless to say, I will be finding something else to take its place. :salute:
