1963 Sandeman Vintage Port

Drank on 09 October 2008 at The Bell offline. Solid red, with nice sweet fig fruit and marzipan on the nose. There are lovely waves of aged red sweet plum fruit and a concentration that hinted at a successful vintage. Still with years to age and improve. I eventually guessed a Port from 1970 given its relative youth. I have tasted other bottles of 1963 Sandeman that have been either fully mature or on the downward slope of maturity. This Berry Bros & Rudd bottling showed its excellent provenance, and was the best bottle of this wine I have ever tasted. 94/100.

Just an amazing showing of a VP that I cut my teeth on. This was the best bottle I have tasted in the past 12 years. It was such a beautiful teenager! Think Ashley Judd at 19 ... which is when I met this VP (its age, not mine ... I was 25).

I've got to check my notes, but I could have sworn we also had a 1960 Sandeman that was also just a perfect showing of it. Yet I don't see it listed in his TN's.

You and I have been through this before. There absolutely was a 1960 Sandeman VP. Why Nicos left it out is beyond me. The 1960 was great. I had it pegged (blind) as a 1983/1985 to put it in age perspective. It was a Berry Brothers bottling and showed very young.

Thanks, I knew there was because I brought it...but after never seeing it mention in a couple threads I thought I brought the '63 and was just being absent minded about it. This weekend I'll post my TN on the '60.
