Tasted at Port & Fran's Chocolates tasting at Fine Wines & Cigars in Redmond Town Center.

2000 Kopke LBV
This is a filtered LBV.

Garnet or ruby in color, not really opaque but still fairly dense. Slightly cloudy also. Tanky nose with red fruit compote and some warmth. Very mellow in the mouth, slightly grapey and nicely rich. A little too tangy, which is possibly related to the tanky nose. Not on par with the 2003 Taylor LBV, but still a reasonable bottle for the price. 86 pts.

This Port was paired with Fran's Dark Chocolate Caramel. They went reasonably well together, but I didn't think that either enhanced the other. I do think that a filtered LBV goes better with dark chocolate than an unfiltered one (or a Vintage Port), but just wasn't wowed by this particular pairing. If you give me a bottle of this Port and a box of these chocolates, I'll happily drink the Port first and then eat the chocolates.
