2005 Roquette e Cazes Xisto Douro

Bought a bottle of this in Shis Restaurant in Foz.

Typical Douro nose, with blackcurrant, eucalyptus, and floral tones. But above these lovely aromas there is an abundance of (new) oak. Slightly disappointing on the palate, very much in a new world style with lots of oak and ripe, round fruit. Though concentrated, it is very accessible and goes well with my wild boar main course, but I had expected a bit more. The nose is the most exciting.

Ronald,
I picked up a bottle of the 2004 version of this and was wondering if you've had it? And if you had, what you thought of it.

I did taste it in 2007 and 2008, the oak is still dominant unfortunately :(

Hi Andy, the '05 was the first and only Xisto I tasted. I was eager to try it, but as you can read, was slightly disappointed. I think you can find better wines for the money, although I must say it was a very enjoyable wine and it matched well with the food.

Fred and Ronald

Thanks for the info. Now that I am over my cold and my work schedule has returned to something a bit more normal, instead of the 90 hour work week I had last week, I hope to open my bottle sometime in the couple of weeks.
