TNR: Adding in TNs

Just around the corner is a new TNDB feature called, MY TNs. It will provide users with the ability to view only your own TNs and in essence, offer your very own data base for your Port, Madeira and Douro wine tasting notes.

Does this sound like something you would use? We've been discussing the new development projects for the TNDB, but if this is not something you will use, we'll work on other elements first.

I notice all of the bottles that you mention you are opening/drinking and it makes me wonder, what prevents you from posting your tasting notes more frequently? [shrug.gif]

Roy, it is a great idea. I'm often looking for my own tasting notes when someone ask if I tasted something and he wants to get the TN.

Why I'm not posting as often as I drink something, mostly for time and the lack of notes I do take these days.

It is something that I would use, but I can't guesstimate how often. I already keep most of my TNs here, though, so the feature probably wouldn't affect the number that I post.

I generally don't bother to post TNs if they're exceptionally short or cryptic, as those aren't even useful to me so I can't imagine how they'd be useful to someone else. And then sometimes I don't take notes when I drink Port, so those TNs never exist at all.

Great idea!!! Being able to see the notes that I've posted would really help me track the development of particular vintages and the corresponding flavor profiles.

I will admit that I love being able to see my TNs on a particular Port grouped into one concise area. David's development of the TNDB was my #1 highlight of 2009 on FTLOP! [notworthy.gif] Although the 2009 Port Gala was certainly a ton of fun too. [cheers.gif]

Oh yeah! That was probably the highlight of the Port year for me, though getting to taste all of those 2007 cask samples is right up there along with the 40-yr Old Tawny Head-to-Head that turned into an 18-bottle/5 person Port binge and the FTLOP 4th Anniversary Party which included my first ever Noval Nacional and getting to meet Oscar Quevedo.

Thank you Glenn! The FTLOP 4th Anniversary Party was definitively one of the highlights of 2009 and one of the most interesting tasting I've ever done. Lots of greats wines and nice people, all this thousands of miles away from my home! In that moment I felt how spread and extended the knowledge and passion about Port is.

My Port/Madeira/Douro wine tasting notes have just been added to the :ftlop: TNDB. In just the 4th quarter alone, I added 136 new TNs to the data base. When I think of all the Ports I've had (while in Portugal, Michigan, NYC during that time frame (a solid 250 more) that have yet to be added for the 4th quarter it boggles my mind and liver.

By the way, that puts my total TNs for 2009 right in the middle of 500-600 TNs on just Port, Madeira and Douro wines. Can someone spare a liver? [cheers.gif] I guess I am going to be the poster child for "FAILURE" with WINE IN MODERATION.

Then when I actually sit back and ponder just how many domestic, Italian, French, German and wines from all over the rest of the world that I have consumed -- which would easily triple the number of Portuguese wines consumed in Q4 ... I realize that either I am going to be personally FORTIFIED or will reduce my life expectancy. Yet I don't understand how at least 50% of the days go by and I drink no wine at all. :scholar:

I could imagine what our TNDB would look like if a few more of you folks were to post even half [shrug.gif] of the Portuguese wines you actually consumed! [berserker.gif]
