7 bottles of 1934 Ramos-Pinto Vintage.

lot for 1500 bucks starting bid.

Roy, got any tips on this? I can not find much on the internet at all. Ebay listing has a collection of pics, but how would one determine authenticity? or even value? :?

Interesting, to say the least. The bottles appear to be in very good contidition (from the picture). Can't tell the fill levels...I wonder if these were stored standing up, and in a temp controlled cellar, since they are being sold in Arizona (a VERY hot desert state for those outside the US). If anyone bids, I would be interested in buying a bottle, depending on condition. Mayson's book only says "1934 Ramos Pintos is fresh and delicate...drink soon"


Can't give you any more info on these, but I think I may have found the answer to Roy's homework question about the IVP seal of guarantee. Well not all the answer...If these bottle are true VP's from 1934, they should have been bottled in 1936. I noticed none have the seal of guarantee. This would mean the seal's use was not started until sometime after 1936.

I have only had Fonseca and Sandeman VPS and a Niepoort Colheita from 1934. The VPs were good, but most 1935s I have had are significantly better. Ramos Pinto was not known for making long lived VPs or even really good ones back then. However, they did occasionally nail some older vintages but I would not buy more than one bottle and experiment BEFORE buying more.

I have never had an older vintage port from this shipper, but I very recently tried their '83 and I was not impressed to say the least. rough and course. once bitten twice shy.

Looks like these probably just missed the requirement for the seal.

- Decreto-Lei nº 26:914, n) - 1936, August, 22nd - The power and rules of IVP - Port Wine Institut - makes and issues the Guarantee seals under the standard configuration which will be obligatory in Port Wine bottling;

does appear risky, esp all 7 bottles. I would also be interested in one or two, but that is a lot of coin for something so little well known quality.

Anybody find any reviews any where would be appreciated.
