1950 Faja dos Padres Terrantez - From one of the greatest areas of the So. Coast of the Island of Madeira, comes this extremely rare Terrantez bottling. RARE WINE COMPANY was offered just a couple of cases of this wine from the Barbeito family which had purchased this rare nectar. The small and renowned vineyard which produced this wine has always been known for producing fabulous Malvasia as today the Terrantez no long exists there and is almost extinct on the entire island. Amazingly, to get to this vineyard, the farmers and pickers have to access it by boat, as it is a small plot at the base of a sheer and vertical cliff well over 1000 ft. tall. EXTREMELY limited and you'll only be able to buy one bottle per person of this. $195. You will not find this anywhere except at the greatest source for Madeira anywhere except the island! Thanks for the tip, I just ordered mine this morning. thank goodness it was not sold out yet as I saw this post very late last night. I have recently read about this part of the island and was amazed at how remote it was and that someone would make the trek to farm there. I could not pass up this opportunity

I can't wait to share some of my Madeira photos. It is incredible to see where these vineyards are located, but far more so, how difficult it is to work within the trellis methods employed in terms of picking. I have never seen anything that backbreaking in my life. It makes a prison cell feel like it is spacious ... not that I would know; but I did crawl (literally) inside the tiny headspace to see what picking would be like. Ouch!

I can relate to the prison cell feel (work related only, I swear :twisted: ) no wonder they are replanting with banana trees...
