- 1977 Dow Porto Vintage - Portugal, Douro, Porto (3/22/2009)
Another leaking bottle. Fill is just below neck. Medium ruby color. Definitely showing some age. Much lighter color than it would be from perfect bottles. Showed fine on opening.. but after a few hours in the decanter, it now appears that it corked. It's mildly corked. It doesn't come through much on the palate, but in the nose it is definitely corked. NR (flawed)

Bummer, I too have had my fair share of corked '77s Dow's and it seems to be a problem for Dow's in this vintage.

That's a shame. The other day, I was so close to buying a magnum, but it's very very expensive here. If the risk of cork is great, I'll definitely reconsider.

I would guess that a magnum would have an entirely different risk of TCA than a normal 750ml bottle because they're bottled at different times and use different corks.
But if the bottle is expensive, it still might not be worth the risk.

I'll agree with that. I think the risk of a corked magnum is completely different. Has anyone had a corked magnum?
