For The Love Of Port

Decanted for sediment only, then back in the uncorked bottle for 6 hours. Beautiful clear, ruby-cinnamon color. The nose shows very controlled spirit that lets the wine really sing. Like other great Taylor's I've tasted, this bottle showed remarkably youthful and precise raspberry, chocolate, licorice and spice, but also impeccable balance and an alluring feminine elegance, leaving me wishing I could drink this all night. This has much life ahead, but we caught this one at a wonderful plateau between youth and full maturity. From a pristine bottle with fill well into the neck, and provenance from Rare Wine Company via Michael Weiss. UK bottled by Hunter and Oliver. This could easily be a perfect bottle. 98 points. 5-21-2010

Wow! Very nice TN! This is a controversial wine. Some people love it (Michael Broadbent for one) and others are unconvinced. Sounds like a superb bottle!!

David, I was very pleasantly surprised myself, given some of the mixed reviews.

Being a Hunter and Oliver bottling may have something to do with this great showing, as it doesn't seem to be a very common bottling in the U.S. I have one bottle left in the cellar, from the same source, but it's hard to imagine it showing as well as this one -- time will tell.

This bottle was opened for some friends from the CellarTracker forum, some experienced Port lovers and some not. I'm sure you know what an extra-special treat it is when a special bottle shows really well for wine lovers who may not have ever experienced a really great bottle of VP. I think we may have a few new converts to the cause
